In the course of my cyber-space journey, I have come across many different and interesting things, as well as met many cyber-friends. My interests have always been varied, but the interaction of people has always seemed to stay at the top of the list. I guess that's why I blog about relationships.
I have noticed, like many of you have, the boom in dating sites. I have also noticed, more interestingly, specialized dating sites. There are sites for just about any niche that people may want or are looking for. A niche that caught my attention recently was the, well, for lack of a better word, service sites.
By service sites I mean sites like sugardaddie.com and myrichsugardaddy.com among others. They gear themselves towards wealthy men and beautiful woman. The man wins because he gets to be with a hot lady, and the lady wins because she gets money.
As there seem to be a growing number of these sites with large memberships, I can only assume the these niches are welcomed by the cyber-public at large. It seems to me that some of these sites come quite close to prostitution. Personally, I don't care and I say live and let live.
I'm just looking at it as a niche that people seem to want. I find it interesting and wonder what the future may have in store for this niche?

There's something for everyone nowadays =) Sometimes we're amazed at how something can be "in demand"
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head Healthygirl-I can't agree more. It really is amazing if we stop to think about the growth of specialized sites about dating on the internet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input :)
I sort of feel that these service sites "enable" people who really might be better served moving on from their fixations that might not be healthy (the men on younger women, the women on money). I also think there's a danger that these sites will perpetuate and validate the stereotype that women only want men with power and men only want young/"beautiful" women. If there were an equal number of sites for rich/powerful women seeking young studly men, I might reconsider my argument. But somehow, I don't think that is the case. . .

Great insight CC! I believe they do validate certain stereotypes.
ReplyDeleteAs the "Sugardaddy" sites are fairly knew, I'll bet that soon we will see the older woman (cougars) younger men sites too. Not sure if they will be in equal proportions either.
Thanks for the input!
you know there are 'cougar' dating sites around now too... so there really isnt much of a difference is there?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous person,
ReplyDeleteI haven't come across any like I have with the sugardaddy sites. I wish you would have given some links.
As to, "so there really isnt much of a difference is there?" Difference in what?
